She’s A Boy Welcome to the website of our exciting new film about young people who are gender fluid.

About The Film
A tomboy’s father won’t let her leave the house unless she wears a dress. A boy who prefers bikinis and plays with Barbies™ has an uncle who gives him toy trucks for his birthday and refuses to call him niece. For gender fluid children, daily experiences like these send them the message over and over again, “Who you are is not okay.”
“She’s A Boy” will profile three children between the ages of five and twelve with gender fluidity, a phenomenon in which a child’s behavior doesn’t conform to their assigned gender. For one year, we will witness the struggles and triumphs of these children and their families as they fight to nurture their children with an identity that American society doesn’t understand.
This misunderstanding often leads to violence. A study by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network revealed that in the U.S., 40% of transgendered students felt unsafe in their own school, 45% had been verbally harassed, 26% had been physically harassed and 12% had been assaulted. Another study estimates that close to fifty percent of transgender people die before the age of thirty, usually by suicide or murder. These studies indicate that American society is not a safe place for gender variance.
The objective of She’s A Boy is to reveal the challenges and the joys of young children who refuse to conform to strict gender identities, and to inspire audiences to imagine a world where gender fluidity is celebrated.
